Where we Are: Russia-Ukraine War
Yesterday Russia sent some signals that it was willing to negotiate. That lasted a few hours; then it returned to dirty bomb threats. Nobody believes that Ukraine is developing a nuclear weapon or a dirty bomb. This is from Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg:
”Russia accuses others of what it is going to do itself”, — NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commented on the statements of Russian officials that Ukraine is allegedly going to detonate a “dirty bomb” on its territory.
So what is going on? Let’s look at this from both sides at a strategic level. I will start with the Federation mostly; it’s the easiest.
They are desperate for a cease-fire. This is why this morning there was another attempt:
For the first time since the beginning of the war, the leader of an African state, the President of Guinea-Bissau, came to Ukraine. He said that he brought Vladimir Zelensky an oral message from Vladimir Putin
Umaru Sisoku Embalo said this during a press conference, writes the Ukrainian edition of Strana. He conveyed that “a direct dialogue is important for further action.”
Zelensky, in turn, called President Putin’s desire to start a conversation with Ukraine nothing more than planned rhetoric that should work for an internal audience in Russia.
