We need a series of reforms. The first is to get rid of the electoral college.

Perhaps both parties need to bring the nomination of a national party nominee inside just party elders. The way we do it now is because of the 1968 democratic convention.

Chiefly we need to enable multiparty democracy. A few states have started, with things like run off voting or the California jungle. We need this nationally.

But we do need reforms.

I highly recommend this book on the subject:

Breaking the two party doom loop.

https://www.amazon.com/Breaking-Two-Party-Doom-Loop-Multiparty/dp/01909138

It is the best, as in more readable, I have found on the subject.

But we also need to realize that right now Republicans need to lose badly. They are under an authoritarian spell and will gladly kill democracy if they can.
