Bare shelves, beginning of the pandemic

Full disclosure, my husband is Branch President of the Mail Handlers, Local 303, United States Postal Service.

When the Centers for Disease Control came up with their vaccination list, they included logistics workers in 1B and media in 1C. At one point, logistics workers were in the 1C priority for the State of California. The reason for these recommendations from CDC was simple. Logistics workers are essential for vaccine distribution. If you have a break in the system, it will slow down, or stop it. We saw it with the storm that affected both UPS and FedEx distribution centers last month. The same could have happened if enough workers caught the illness and could not report to work, or worse, died from it.

I include the CDC material, for your consideration.

· police officers

· corrections officers

· food and agricultural workers

· United States Postal Service workers

· manufacturing workers

· grocery store workers

· public transit workers

· those who work in the educational sector (teachers, support staff…
