Useful Idiots

So Code Pink is now using the extremely flawed piece from Amnesty International. If they did not, that would have been a surprise. This organization is on the American far left and the political fringe. At one time, they protested the right things. For example, they were correct to take to the streets over Abu Graib and torture during the Iraq war.

At this point, they have become one more fringe organization compromised by their desire to destroy the American empire. After all, in the cynical view of these organizations, the only imperialism that matters is the American kind. Ergo, the only thing we need to do to end imperialism is to end the American empire.

In this fiction, defunding the military means everything else we need, such as oh… single-payer health care, will be available and used to benefit the people. That this is fantasy is beside the point.

Useful idiots have existed since at least the 1930s. There is also a modern trend toward both sides is equally valid. It’s not just Amnesty International or Code Pink. It’s infected modern journalism. Add to that access and softballs, and we find ourselves at a point where genocide is equalized with self-defense.
