Trump and Ukraine

There is hope now that incoming President Donald Trump will not sell Ukraine off. And let’s say some folks have done a great job of figuring out what drives Trump. That is his Ego. Here is one of the versions of the same story. I chose the Moscow Times to share because it’s the one honing in on that part of the story:

Europeans persuaded Trump’s team to support Ukraine by scaring them with Afghanistan and China

Kyiv’s European allies have begun to feel cautiously optimistic about US President-elect Donald Trump’s stance on Ukraine. There is hope that Trump, who has demonstrated a common-sense approach in discussions with Europeans, will not force Ukraine into disadvantageous negotiations with Russia.

European officials involved in discussions with members of Trump’s team told Bloomberg that there is reason to believe that the new administration will help Ukraine emerge in a stronger position than it was before peace talks began. In those discussions, Europeans made the case for continued support for Ukraine.

Trump’s allies were most swayed, they said, by two arguments: A quick deal that made concessions to Vladimir Putin would risk humiliating the new US president similar to what Joe Biden suffered as a result of the hasty and ill-conceived withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan; allowing Putin to achieve such a victory would only encourage China to behave more aggressively.
