Torture and War Crimes
There is one constant about Russia. It is the love of torture to obtain confessions, or worse, just for fun. This is from the Navalny diary. It matters because I will follow it with a few examples. This is the society some in the West admire. While torture is not new to Vladimir Putin, it’s been a centuries-long constant.
Should we blame the Khanate? Some historians do. After over 500 years, I think it’s time to realize this has nothing to do with the Tartar yoke and it is just who Russia is. So, with no further, here:
Alexey Navalny: “The prison authorities in several regions not only organized a system of torture and rape of prisoners, but also filmed it all. It was subsequently uploaded to a central server* so that they themselves or FSB officers could access the recordings and have the opportunity to intimidate anyone by explaining to them what could happen to them.
Alternatively (and as I understand it, this was their main goal), having raped a prisoner, they could recruit him to their cause through blackmail, threatening to release the recording.
This would lead to other prisoners classifying him as a “low caste”. In some cases, prison staff carry out the torture; in others, prisoners do it.
Almost all of the videos depicted a scene of a man being raped with a mop stick.
I don’t know why. Maybe it’s just “prison branding.” Or maybe some sick pervert from the Federal Penitentiary Service or FSB secretly fantasizes about such things, so he decided to give the order…
