There have been literally seven two state solutions. Two before independence. Israel has been willing from the beginning to accept this. This is the part of the story not told. Let’s assume a game of if what. What if Arab states did not invade Israel two seconds after independence and accepted that split, which had about sixty percent of the land in Arab hands, and Jerusalem as an international open city?
