The Victory Day Parade
This came out today, and it matches my observations, as well as others, of how Russia is becoming an increasingly fascist state. The post will need some, in-the-middle contextualization. So expect that as well:
Victory parade: did the “fart” really turn out to be so “immortal”
A state that cannot offer a discussion about the future is plunging into history: the stronger Russian authoritarianism becomes, the more frantically it celebrates the “victory”.
🫵🏼 Doctor of History Larysa Yakubova has investigated how and why the Kremlin manipulated the pathos of the Victory Day. For a long time, such a holiday did not exist in the mental space of the scoop.
👉🏼 The first victory parade took place in 1945, after which the event was not celebrated as such in the USSR, it was just a regular working day. The second parade took place only in 1965, and May 9 again became a day off. The third was held in 1985. In 1990, a reconstruction parade was held: wartime equipment was brought to Red Square.
👉🏼 Victory parades were remembered again in the anniversary year of 1995.
