The Russian World is a Dystopia

When looking at Russia, one has to wonder what went so wrong that the hope of 1991 has become the nightmare of the present. It’s not just the war and the war crimes committed every day. The latest involves the castration and later murder of a Ukrainian military member and the bombing of a POW camp.

Both are horrendous. They speak to a society that is rotten to the core. It’s easy to blame the soldiers. We know who did the former, and Russia planned the latter as a provocation. They love to do this and know there are enough defenders online that at least things can become gray.

Rumors are rife that this was done to hide war crimes by killing POWs. Rumors involve forced castration of prisoners of war, which would be a form of genocide. Rumors are there for a reason, and the reaction from some Russian nationalists does not help.

I couldn’t watch today’s creepy video. But here’s what I’ll tell you. This is a civil, fratricidal war in a sense. When you rejoice that a Mongol cut off the genitals of a Ukrainian fighter, this means that later, after the war, you will not have a relative. Just as children, your relatives, will not be born to a castrated Russian fighter. So you, your family will be smaller. And there is nothing to be happy about. Who among us is right and who is wrong will be judged by history. But then, when all this is over, and…
