The Republican War is Bold
You may have noticed if you spend time on social media. Many Republican elected officials are quoting Biblical passages on social media. It is not just Marco Rubio any longer. What is the problem with this? First electeds took an oath to the Constitution which includes the Establishment Clause of the first amendment. Meaning, the government will not establish any religion, or lack off, above all others. The government is not in that business. Elected officials give the wrong impression when they start quoting scripture as to what faith is preferred.
Why did they find their Bibles so attractive all of a sudden?
The Republican Party has gotten closer over decades to the (white) nationalist Christian Right. This was obvious with the Donald Reagan administration, and his relationship with Jerry Falwell. These days these quotes are signaling to the Quiverfull movement, the Seven Mountains Movement, and a few others in the far tight evangelical movement. It’s also embracing Christian zionists who tolerate Jews as a means to an end: The second coming of Christ and the apocalypse.
These people marched under the cross in the past. And they continue to do so in the present. It’s a form of radical religiosity that we started to see in the streets with the Tea Party movement, but it was also the anti-abortion demonstration and activism, as well as the…
