The Officer Purge Continues

Russia continues to purge officers. Now this is leading to unrest among the troops. First, a critic of what’s happening in the field will be sent to Syria. This is according to Yigal Levin:

Russian media report that the dismissed commander of the 58th Army of the Russian Armed Forces, Major General Ivan Popov, will be sent to Syria. This is a common tactic for the Russian military leadership — to transfer troubled commanders to Syria, minimizing their impact on warfare and the internal situation.

This is one way to deal with popular critics with the troops. This also prevents a rush to Moscow with troops that like their commander. Remember, his issues with the command were very similar to those of Wagner commander Yevgeny Prighozin.

Whether he is still alive or not is a good question. But this is the latest reason for these mercs in Belarus. Fun fact that would trigger article five:

PMC “Wagner” was transferred to Belarus, because Russia “in case of what” will need the Suwałki Corridor (the territory between Poland and Lithuania), State Duma deputy Kartapolov revealed the plans.

Incidentally, all this points to a pattern. It is not that the war is wrong. Or that war crimes have been committed. Are the people in the rear completely isolated from the facts in the field? This brings me to British
