The J-6 Coup is not Over

The coup attempt is not over. Donald Trump is telling anybody who cares that he expects to be restored to power by August. Let’s be clear, so do the hard-core believers deep in the QAnon bubble. Some of these people, a higher number by the day, wish for a military coup to fix what they know was a stolen election. They are positive the military is white, cisgender, Protestant, and conservative. Ok, they may have a few others, but they must be with them. These people do not understand that the military is a microcosm of American society. Yes, some are hard-core white nationalists. But you also have bleeding heart liberals. This is why it comes as zero surprise that some of the people involved in the insurrection were either active military or vets. This is also a reason the military must deal with these radicals within the ranks. They are a clear and present danger, not just to good order and discipline, but to national security.

When people act against the state, we might have to confront sedition. It is well beyond free speech at this point. This is something we still refuse to fully admit. So where did the idea of a coup start? Retired LtGen Michael Flynn suggested this to Trump in December. Whether that would be prosecutable or not, it matters not. He was pardoned by the former president on the way out.

Then came the coup in Myanmar. A day or two after the coup some people in certain far-right safe spaces were already saying a coup should happen in this country. They favored imposing a dictator on this country because they believe that Joe…
