The Fuel Situation, the Draft, and Other Stories

First, I would like to begin today’s piece with the fuel situation. It is getting worse within Russia. And there is no doubt that this is affecting the army at this point.

Realize, armies need enormous amounts of fuel. Losing supply for even a few days will disrupt operations. So this piece tells me things are getting worse:

Ukrainian drone attacks have disrupted petroleum product production in Russia but increased exports of Russian crude oil — Bloomberg

📌 In 2025, Ukraine managed to strike more than a third of Russia’s main oil refineries, Bloomberg reports. Since the beginning of August, Ukraine has carried out at least 28 attacks on Russian refineries. For comparison, 21 attacks were made in the first seven months of the year.

📌 The intensification of attacks has led to a reduction in domestic fuel production and, accordingly, to an increase in crude oil sales. According to the analytics company OilX, Russian refineries plan to process 4.86 million barrels of crude oil per day in October, which is 484,000 barrels per day less than in July.

📌 At the same time, tanker tracking data shows that export flows have increased by 435,000 barrels per day.
