The Fate of Ukrainians in Russia
Wars always cause population shifts. Many refugees flee from combat zones. While most of the refugee flow has been towards the west, many have either been forced to go to Russia or chose to.
Russia has a refugee issue, and one of the things it promised was support. Promises in authoritarian states are very easy to make. Now keeping them is a whole different story, especially in a state where skimming from the top is common.
Vladimir Putin promised refugees a 10,000 rubble month support. It’s not that much in real terms, but it is something. So via MO on Telegram, we learn some of the details on this.
Refugees from Ukraine have been unable to receive “Putin’s” 10 thousand for months — although the budget of the Russian Federation provides 10 billion rubles for these payments. Those who fled the war fear that their money was stolen
Refugees are discussing the widespread problems with payments of the “dozens” promised back in February by Putin in closed chats, one of the participants of which was the correspondent of the “We Can Explain” channel. He also talked to several refugees who have the same problems: money does not come or is paid partially. People assume that the money allocated for financial assistance was stolen.
