The EC was also a tool of slavery, even if mostly an afterthought. The US does need to get rid of the EC, but it also needs to get rid of gerrymandering, and at least joining the 19th century with proportional representation. Laws that prevent third party access to the ballot also need to go.

All this will allow for a more democratic system, with truer representation and a slew of parties that essentially exist within both parties.

The Founders were aware that reforms are needed to foundational documents. They did not write a sacred text dictated by god. This is a product of the Enlightenment, and there are solid reasons why it is no longer a model for other national constitutions.
