The Day After…Newson is Still Governor

There was some surprise in the result of the recall. Let me clarify, not that it failed, I expected that. The surprise came in the numbers. In some places, the governor over-performed over the 2018 election. If anything, he is now the leading candidate for the 2022 election.

So is Larry Elder, even though he likely would be defeated by similar numbers since the state is rejecting Trumpism. In fact, Donald J Trump was on the ballot and was defeated again in the state. As I said, it is the numbers of this shellacking that surprised me. I expected it to be a tad closer.

So what happened? Why did the Governor over-perform? If you listen to some east coast based media, Gavin Newsom represented the elites, because of the French Laundry escapade, for which he apologized. Their analysis is wrong. Californians, for the most part, like the job the Governor is doing. We like the protections and did not mind the mandates (that much.)

The Recall Process

Why did we find ourselves in this special election, to begin with? Mostly it is a significant minority that lost power in the state and has become further radicalized. This effort started exactly in the same Central Valley that went for Trump, that believes in the state that was, and is distressed at the state that has become. The Central Valley is…
