The Civil War Grows
This morning we woke to the news of another incursion into the Belgorod region. We also know that Ukraine has been hitting the border region for some time. So before we go into the claims made by the RDK and the stories of displaced civilians, first why? For this, I am leaning on Volymedia, which tends to be the more analytical of the bunch:
Why is Shebekino and border villages in the Belgorod region being heavily shelled
In the past few days, shelling of border areas in the Belgorod region, including settlements, has intensified. Pro-Russian and opposition channels publish videos and audio with the stories of local residents. Residents talk about the strongest shelling, fear, horror and flight from their home, “that’s what it was.” The flight, however, began only on June 1, when both artillery and MLRS hit Shebekino.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are destroying military targets, of which there are plenty in Shebekino, Novaya Tavolzhanka, other villages and Belgorod itself. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation deliberately drive equipment and personnel under the cover of houses and residents.
This is standard practice for the Russian army. This was done in 2014 in the Donbas, this was done since the beginning of the war in the occupied territories of Ukraine, and this is now being done on their own territory.
