Some in the GOP Adopt “the Storm”
This should surprise no one. Republicans have three discernible factions within the party and in ascendancy is the conspiracy-laden Qanon faction. This is the successor to the Tea Party, which could be argued is the intellectual successor of the militia movements of the 1990s. A large part of the Party of Lincoln is radicalized. This has some parallels to the know-nothings of the 1840s and 50s, which the Republican Party replaced. The Lincoln Project parallels nicely that process, and so does the beginning of an openly fascist, white supremacist Patriot Party. More on the latter below.
This explains why some State Parties are adopting the crazy as part of QAnon, including slogans and belief systems. QAnon is where the party base is heading to. Increasing levels of conspiracy have become central to the party ideology, including believing the January sixth insurrection was a false flag, as the Oregon Party has alleged. This is a problem in a democracy or at least a functional one. Instead, we are quickly moving towards fascist ideation. This leads to a group of people who trust the system so little that they can be manipulated into doing things that they would not even dream about a few years ago. This includes insurrection.
This is partly grievance politics, but it is also big lie politics. It is just getting worse. This is not just limited to the party…
