You were told by your doctor you need to lose weight. Or you decided it’s time. It could be as simple as you woke up and decided that this was not sustainable, or your clothes no longer fit. A recent diagnosis might be behind your decision. Whatever it was, I have some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that it is possible. There is no secret to this. Whatever you decide to do, all diets, fad, healthy, the flavor of the month, have one thing in common. They all achieve that weight loss by achieving caloric deficit. This means eating fewer calories than you need to eat to maintain your current weight. Yes, it is actually that simple.

Yes, that’s it. There is no magic pill. There is no secret. Eat fewer calories than you need to keep your current weight, you will lose weight. In theory, you could do this by eating twinkles all day, but I do not recommend that. The idea is to get to a caloric deficit, and stay there as often as you can, but to do it in a healthy way.

However, be careful about trying too much of a good thing. Radical diets that put you under 1200 calories for women and 1500 for men should only be done under medical supervision. Why? You will not get enough micro-nutrients for starters. This brings me to what to eat.
