Let’s assume for a second Russia wins this war. They manage to keep these territories. So what do they intend to do? Well, what they have always done. This is why there are formerly Ukrainian Cossacks in the Kuban region or the northern Caucasus.

This post is a classic signaling of intent going back hundreds of years:

The State Duma proposed allocating an “Eastern Ukrainian hectare” to war participants in the occupied territories

State Duma deputy and head of the Rodina party Alexei Zhuravlev announced the development of a bill that would allow “SMO veterans” to receive land in the occupied territories of Ukraine. After the adoption of the new law, the authorities will begin to issue them plots in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The military is expected to receive the property “as a priority.”

Zhuravlev justifies this measure by the sharp “expansion of territory” of the Russian Federation last year, when Putin formally annexed several Ukrainian regions.

Last December, Putin issued an order in which he “recommended” that the Moscow region, Crimea and Sevastopol distribute free plots of land to the military and their families. State Duma found a better variant — a plot of land with minefield. Veterans would gladly clean it out — at least the death rate would be lower than on the front
