Republicans Threaten Another Shutdown

Republicans are experts at blowing the debt, blaming Democrats and weaponizing it. We are in yet another episode of a government shutdown threat. Republicans, at least the modern incarnation of the party, believe that government can’t do a thing right. Ok, perhaps one thing, national defense. That is questionable, since these days they are even undermining that. Yes, Tucker Carlson abs the rest of the right-wing machines are now accusing the military of being effeminate, ergo less capable.

They are not hiding fascism any longer. It is clear that they don’t believe in the country that the founders bequeathed to us. What republicans seek is power. They don’t care who gets hurt in the process. This is why they are threatening a new shutdown.

It’s cynical. They seek to prove Democrats cannot govern. It’s hard to be effective when all you get is opposition. Republicans don’t care who is affected by this. They know not of collateral damage, such as people on social security living paycheck to paycheck, or service members. For that matter, constitutional requirements to pay for the national debt are nothing to them.

This is literally about power, raw power. It’s also about control. As the white evangelical base continues to lose political influence, they will be driven to more dramatic measures. We are seeing some changes in state law…
