The Great Patriotic War lives within myth in the Russian Federation. This was an existential war for the USSR, which is true. What is not true is that it defeated the Nazis all on its own.

So today, as more weapon transfers are announced, this came through from the Russian ambassador to the United States:

Let me make this clear. The United States sent military equipment to the Red Army, not the German Army. We were allies during the war and supplied M4-Shermans, trucks, fuel, paint, rations, and a lot more. Without those supplies, Russia would have faced defeat.
