Pride San Diego was a Colorful Affair

San Diego Pride is one of the largest civic events in San Diego, if not the largest. It attracts over 300,000 people, between contingents and people watching. Pride was the usual colorful affair this year, with marching bands, first responders, businesses, and local politicians.
It took place at Hillcrest, with the traditional starting point at the Pride flag, a block from the LGBT service center. What follows is a photo essay with highlights of the event. Most photos were taken by Tom Abbott, with a few shots from me.
It was nice and hot, with the parade starting at ten in the morning, and it ended at about one thirty, with the Pride flag carried by volunteers. This caps events in the city.
The parade started in 1975 when the first permitted parade was held, with 400 people. Before that, there were a few unpermitted events. Now even the Wikipedia page needs updating. We have covered this since at least 2013, and it continues to grow.
Like everything else, it stopped during the Pandemic, but it’s back, stronger than ever, to the point that the staging area has food trucks in place. I would like to recognize their volunteers managing the parking. They were very good about the instructions for parking.
