On CNN Going Far Right

If you are on social media, there is somewhat of panic that CNN is taking a right turn in coverage. It’s CNN's turn because we have this story every two years. It has to do with the control of Congress. And it is related to a few systemic problems with American media.

First, let me come out of the gate. CNN cannot afford to do that. Why? It is also an international service with an international audience that is far more sophisticated regarding news than the American public. The evening programming, AC360 Don Lemon, is on both. You can also find Wolf Blitzer’s program. Other shows include the Sunday political shows.

Why is CNN bringing more Republicans on board, including former Trump administration people? First, let’s deal with expectations. The party that does not have the White House tends to lose seats in the midterms. It’s been the case since the 1950s. There have been two exceptions. In my view, due to Dobbs, we will see a third. I think the Dobbs decision changed the political environment. I expect Democrats to keep the Senate, even grow its slim majority, from 50 to maybe 53 or 54.

This is both a function of the Dobbs decision and terrible candidates in places like Pennsylvania for example. The House is harder to predict due to extreme gerrymandering, but there is still a chance Dems will keep the gavel. Dobbs was a political earthquake, and we…
