Nullification and Conspiracy

On the way to the civil war, several southern states started to engage in the practice of nullification. In effect, southern governors refused to acknowledge federal authority, under the tenth amendment.

It is back. Governor Greg Abbott of Texas went there. He signed a resolution where he said that the state has powers not stated in the constitution. He also said the Federal Government should stop encroaching on the state. Now, his resolution is a call for nullification, and it is partly about far-right politics and elections.

He is also going to complete the wall, which will be interesting since Texans can, and some will resist. This will be done, we are told, with donations. Personally, it smells like a scam.

A more overt example of nullification came via Arizona. The Governor signed a bill rejecting federal gun laws. So did the Governor of Missouri. I suspect this is red meat, but it is also a direct challenge to federal authority. Nullification was one of the steps that led to a hot civil war.

Conspiracies

Then we have the big lie or rather big lies. The latest in the J-6 lies is that the FBI is behind the insurrection. It was Antifa. It was just a tour. It was nonviolent. The election was stolen. All this is part of the big lie about the most serious insurrection since the Civil…
