After refusing to return the body of Alexey Navalny for a week, it finally has. We know the funeral is expected to happen in Moscow. This is the capital of the empire and where Navalny challenged the authorities. It is also where Boris Nemtsov was buried. It is where Andrei Sakharov was also buried during the Soviet period. It is where that funeral signaled support for change. The photo at the top is precisely from that funeral.

So here is the assessment of a Russian historian on the upcoming funeral.

“For them, he’s even more dangerous dead than alive.” Historian Yuri Pivovarov talks about the threat Navalny’s funeral poses to the Kremlin.

Navalny’s team is looking for a hall for a public farewell to him in Moscow. Even after Navalny’s body is handed over to his mother, the authorities will interfere with his funeral, historian Yuri Pivovarov said in an interview with MO, recalling historical parallels:
