My dad came from Eastern Poland to Mexico after the Holocaust. And my mom’s family came from Eastern Poland as the Russian Civil War was starting, and the Mexican one was ending. I took courses in Russian history in graduate school. Some of the family history dad shared, mom a lot less. She was born in Mexico.

Recently I found out some of her side of the family hails from Western Ukraine as well, likely the Lviv region. This was Poland for a tad.

As to Russian, I use Google translate. Though I am starting to understand more from constant immersion since the war started.
