Logistics Collapse and the Ruble

Yesterday, I wrote that Russia is entering a crisis. And the crisis is also a logistics nightmare, which, incidentally, has echoes of the 1917 crisis that led to the February and October revolutions. It also has echoes to 1989, when the Soviets were unable to provide the basics to stores. And this is not a minor thing. Once Russians realized that bread was in short supply at the stores, they knew things were bad.

In 1917, it led to riots that, in time, became a full-on revolution. This is one thing that Vladimir Putin hates and fears. This is why we should all start paying attention to this. So here is your first noise signal that short-range logistics is starting to fail:

Food producers are already warning retail chains about possible supply problems due to fuel shortages. As “Fontanka” reports, companies are asking not to fine them for delivery delays.

Logistics companies confirm that the most difficult situation has developed in the Volga region, in the south and east of Russia. Some carriers are already reluctant to take trips to these regions, as there’s a risk of not finding fuel for the return journey.
