Let’s Talk Russian Active Measures
While the Russians seem to have lost the propaganda war, at least on Twitter and Facebook, they continue their fifth column operations. Granted, they are off western social media. In their mind closing that space means their people can be isolated. In an authoritarian regime that is perfect. However, this does not mean active measures and hybrid warfare in the west are over.
There are a few fronts to this information war:
1.- Russians are very active still on Social Media, particularly on Telegram. We know because they are getting sloppy. The screencap is full of Cyrillic, from the handle to the posters.
They are pushing for more division within the west. The convoys are not just grievances. They are a direct attack on institutions and the supply chain.
It’s not accidental that these were global and attempted to slow down logistics chains as Russia prepared to go to war. The active measures on social media, particularly in friendly channels on Telegram, are still effective. The American far-right still expects a Russian victory. In fact, they celebrate it.
