Israel…Connections
We all woke up this morning to a new Israeli-Arab war. Precisely, Hamas invaded and overran military bases and border settlements, including the town of Sderot. This was a massive attack that was highly successful.
They used low-level technologies, and it was exceptionally well coordinated. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ran for security. He ran on safety. This failed today.
Yet, I want to look beyond the immediate events. I want to look at the geopolitics of this. The first obvious one is who nominally supports whom.
Iran supports Hamas. The latter is allied with Russia. Right now, they are sending drones to Russia to attack Ukraine. Yes, we released six billion of their money to recover our people. This is becoming a political point for the MAGA right. Nor has the money been released yet. It’s still in Doha.
Now, let’s look at what Dmitry Medvedev posted this morning. This is your daily reminder he is not your crazy uncle at the Thanksgiving dinner. This is the Secretary of the Russian National Security Council. So, as many jokes as we make about him being drunk, he is still an essential member of the government:
