This is the first night I go to bed not fearing for the country's future. Many of the worse election deniers, MAGA types, lost. One of the better examples of this was the Fetterman-Oz race in Pennsylvania.

It is not because I prefer Democrats. Mehmet Oz was a terrible candidate, an election denier. I guess his loss came from things like the famous vegetable plate he put together, using the French name for it, crudités, back in February. I admit this; it was cute. In a state that tends to be more working class…it was beyond a rookie mistake.

The problem was he was an election denier. He is part of this New Right fascist takeover and a clear risk to American Democracy. It’s a complicated story, and only picking on him because the raw vegetable plate with raw asparagus was an unforced error.

So let’s pull back from that election and into the big picture.

Historically the party out of power loses a lot of seats in the House. We are talking forty, sixty seats. These wild swings have become a rule in recent decades; after the Great Depression Democrats controlled the House for forty years why the Newt Gingrich revolution was such a big deal.

The red wave did not materialize last night. It should have, from recent election cycles. I was not surprised, and these results matched my expectations…
