Igor Streikov and the Coming Elections

In states like Russia, simulacra of elections is a way to increase legitimacy, especially before the West. So Russia is not an exception to this. Igor Streikov/Girkin has announced his run for the presidency from pre-trial confinement at Leforto.

So here is his announcement:

I’M GOING TO ELECTION

My text “Why am I better than the current president” dated August 30 of this year was actually dictated by me in order to attract public attention before the real work of nominating me as a candidate for the presidency of the Russian Federation began.

I understand perfectly well that in the current situation in the Russian Federation, participating in the presidential campaign is like sitting down at a table to play with cheaters. But I am not a naive person from the word “completely”. I am sure that I will not be allowed to sit at this table even as a candidate at the stage of collecting signatures to participate in the elections as a self-nominated candidate.

I have never participated in simulacra organized by the current government, and everyone knows my position well. But now there is a difficult so-called SVO and the cheaters are afraid of the very fact of an attempt at nomination. My nomination could disrupt their plans to hold sham elections with the “whipping boys” prepared by…
