I was as well, and I never for a hot minute got any of these issues. And lord knows I grew up in two societies, and neither of them led to these issues.
I was a medical provider as well,. and as an EMT the only time diet entered the conversation was with diabetics who called us because of a crisis. Usually involving high glucose levels and at times a trip to the ER. In the business it is called an intervention moment. The same is done with alcoholics and drug addicts.
As to the current crisis in a pandemic of obesity. yes it is our business when Non Communicable Diseases are now killing more people than infectious diseases, including COVID, which incidentally, they put the person at a higher risk of dying. But to each their own I suppose.
Literally, high rates of NCDs, even before COVID, were expected to stress medical systems around the world and in fact already were in places like India, England and Mexico. and starting to stress the American system as well.
So yes,. from a public health perspective it is our business at a population level;. and I blame the food industry.
