Rural voters are indeed more conservative, they are more religious. And yes, can trend more fascist at this point. This is not hate. There is data on this. It’s not just the US. I could have made this statement about Hungary, Italy, the Uk, France. It’s at least a reality of the Western world.

At the same time, there is also data that tells us that urban residents tend to be more progressive or liberal, not the same thing in the United States. They also trend more cosmopolitan.

Are all rural or urban residents either of these things? No. But as a large data point this is why cities are surrounded by an ocean of red.
