Help for Russia…

When the war is over, there is a distinct possibility that the West will also assist Russia. It’s not unprecedented. MO had this yesterday since it’s the anniversary. And they also ran some historical photos:

On February 10, 1992, the insidious NATO bloc invaded Russia on a multitude of aircraft. Operation Give Hope began — more than 500 tons of food and medicine were delivered from the USA to Russia. The operation was carried out under the motto “Let’s help the Russians survive the winter.”

It was then that NATO and the soldiers of the Soviet empire clashed — the latter were unloading humanitarian aid so that a fragment of the great empire would not starve to death.

Now as much as they are being funny, there were reasons for this operation. The pilots flew cargo planes filled to the brim with food, baby diapers, and even fuel. It was the worst winter since the Second World War for Russia. Most Americans have no memory of this.

It was done not just out of the goodness of our hearts. However, humanism is something common to western societies. It’s a value going back to at least the Renaissance. It took hold during the Enlightenment.

Incidentally, for people like Vladimir Putin and the Russian nationalists, this was beyond embarrassing. This was what was called soft power. Unfortunately, it needed to be followed…
