Grimdark and Our Miniatures Gaming
So we gave the rules the full attention they needed and played a few games. One Page Rules may seem simplified at first glance, but the ruleset is simple to learn, and it will take time to master. For some gamers, a simple-looking rule set seems childlike. However, here are two games that have very simple rules: Chess and Go. Care to tell me these two are simple games?
Just because a rule set seems simple, does not mean it lacks depth. It may not be to your taste, but this simplicity equals childlike is a false thing popular among tabletop gamers who think many tables and long hours of gameplay means depth.
You do not have to like simple-looking games. Full disclosure, I do not play either Chess or Go. Nor do I play Johny Reb, which has more tables than you can throw dice at.
Why We Liked It
My husband is a fan of orks and has a substantial collection going back to the 1990s. He loves his buggies and has modified more than a few. He has also built models that he uses in games that had no models at one time. A good example are his battle-fortresses. Each is different in true ork fashion. Construction rules meant there were stats. OPR has construction rules. His miniatures may, or may not be legal in GW events.
