This was the announcement. It was dramatic. It was on point. And overnight, the Russians extracted Bashar Al-Assad. He has emerged in Russia. Here:

December 7, 2024, is a day Syrians will remember. It was the day the revolution against Bashar al-Assad succeeded, and the country became a new place. What exactly? Time will tell.

Suffice it to say that rumors circulated about the fate of Assad and his family. Earlier in the day, there was a rumor that he had left for Abu Dhabi. Late in the events of the night, he was on board a cargo plane that was likely shot down near Homs. He tried to get to Lebanon but was denied entry into that airspace. I have been treating all these as rumors. What is above seems to be the first non-rumor.

Breaking news rules apply to a lot of this… as we used to say, early on, everything can be wrong.

Let’s examine the geopolitics of this because the chessboard changed, and Russia got a black eye. First…
