First, some observations. Saturday it’s a busy day at Comicon. It is the high point of the convention. However, we could move around the trolley stations, the buildings in front of the Convention Center, and fifth avenue. There have been years where you walk where the crowd takes you. Not this year.

The Petco Park Experience (free and open to the public) has a long line.

Whether this is because of the Sag-Aftra strike or Comicon is still recovering from the Pandemic, this is a good question. However, what will the economic benefit be to city coffers? It will likely be lower than in the years before the pandemic. We will need to wait for the city budget next year to compare. But in years past, it’s been to 40 million for city coffers. So I suspect this is something to look forwards next March. This matters because this is the direct benefit of events like Comicon to cities.

We also saw many off-jurisdiction officers, such as a Los Angeles Police K-9 bomb officer. We also saw some from Riverside and Orange County.
