Both Political Parties are Fractured

We live in a time of extreme partisanship. While it started in the 1990s, at this point it is damaging to the country, and to both parties. Also, both parties are fractured into different factions that cannot stand each other, and at least two could easily belong in either party. It is very obvious with the Republican Party, but less so with the Democrats. However, If we decided to join the nineteenth century and adopt a proportional representation system, both parties would break apart. This is one reason it seems Washington can’t do a thing because both parties have factions that are tugging and pulling from within. Their goals are different, and it shows.

It is important to understand this when looking at the dysfunction in DC. It is not just the Gingrich effect, or the increase in hyper-partisanship, though that is a large component. It is also that the parties are utterly fractured, and the internal factions have problems playing well with others. Let’s look at these factions as if they were actual, different parties, as they would in another country. Let’s start with the Republicans since they are the most obvious and dangerous.

The White Nationalists

This is the faction that former president Donald Trump still controls. It is the most obvious and loudest faction. It started its ascendancy (in an obvious way)…
