…And Water is Wet, Republicans and the Media
Even before Donald Trump became the nominee I wrote in a now-defunct paper, about his authoritarian tendencies. I also wrote how this reflected on a Republican Party that was becoming increasingly authoritarian and non-democratic, with a small D. I have kept pounding on this theme because this is not new. My first awareness of this tendency was in the early years of the Barack Obama administration when we went to counter-protest Tea Party Activists, and even earlier as I read sites online such as Free Republic, and later 4Chan, Breitbart, and other places in the right-wing media ecosphere. These places peddle their stories with a large dash of fear. I remember telling my friends that the Republican Party would gladly eliminate those they see as a clear and present danger to the United States. The list includes not just minorities, but Democrats, who they believe have no right to hold any political or economic power.
Since I started writing on Medium, I have written on the many ways the Republican Party has adopted authoritarian methods and views. I have also written on the many ways the party has transformed itself into a white nationalist party. The good news is that some major media outlets are finally noticing and repointing on this.
