A Target List

What we are seeing is predictable. The President of the United States is fomenting hate and division in this country. He is blaming the media (CNN was one of the targets of now nine packages) for what is happening. We woke up to a bomb at Robert DeNiro TriBeCa Film Productions headquarters in New York. We have confirmation that a ninth and tenth package were found in two different United States Postal Service facilities in Delaware. They were addressed to former Vice-President Joe Biden.

This list will grow.

All the targets, so far, have been former high ranking Democratic members. Two former presidents, and a Secretary of State, as well as a currently serving member of the House. The other target was a media company. We also see an actor targeted because he plays Robert Mueller on Saturday Night Life. All are critics of the President of the United States.

Predictably, since I could set my watch by it, the President has chosen to blame the victims and continue to divide the country. This is who Donald Trump is. He is failing as a real leader. If we look at it from what we expected from national leaders it is clear as day. Trump is no George W Bush standing on the pile of rubble at the World Trade Center after 9–11 with a bullhorn. Bush with all his faults, and he has many, unified the country at that moment. Trump, on the other hand, continues to act as if he is the victim. He continues to divide in the midst of a direct attack on the country and democracy itself.

But we have a problem. We have a bomber or bombers. We have a terrorist afoot. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio called him this way in the early morning.

The target list is extraordinary. It is the who’s who of the Democratic Party leadership. It is an attack on Democracy itself. They are all in Trump’s enemy’s list.

I have written in the past that we are heading towards internal conflict. It is clear that we cannot rely on presidential leadership to slow it down or stop it. The target list is one this president cites often. Whenever he speaks of the press as the enemies of the people, he is sending clear signals. He has been warned of the danger as well.

Whenever he, or his followers, speak of crooked Hillary and lead chants to lock her up, they are encouraging this.

We must stop pretending that this president could somehow do the right thing. We must stop pretending that he will, somehow, get an epiphany and actually lead and unify the country. However, it is high time to stop pretending that this is not willful. There is a method to all this and one we have seen in other periods of history,

Trump is following a clear pattern that every strong man in history has used. Let me reemphasize this, and sorry for hitting readers on the side of the head, This is a pattern to consolidate power. He seeks total power. This is the ultimate goal. So if you think he will change his stripes, and become TelePrompTer Trump, that train left the station a while ago. He has always been a divisive person and has been like that for literally decades. This is why New Yorkers are not particular fans of their native son. They have known of his antics for literally decades.

He is a racist, he is a white supremacist. The Central Park Five antics were clear on that. So is not calling out white supremacists for their hate. He is one of them. This is on a continuum.

We also know that not too long ago the president said this:

“I would love to be able to bring back our country into a great form of unity,” Trump said. “Without a major event where people pull together, that’s hard to do. But I would like to do it without that major event because usually that major event is not a good thing.”

We know that Trump has unleashed a level of rage among his base that is not unreal, *it is expected.* It has familiar patterns to those who know history. It is starting to look like the Chinese cultural revolution. Why the rage against elites, and globalists. This is also why the president engaged lovingly with the term nationalist. It is loaded, historically, and his pretense that he has never heard of that is just that. He is pretending for a reason. The views of people like him are not popular, with good reason.

Consider as well where the Chinese Cultural Revolution ended at. Those who held Mao’s little red book rounded up people who were labeled intellectuals and sent them to work camps. You may properly call it what it was…cultural genocide. After all, many of the people who were sent away were the guardians, wittingly or unwittingly, of Chinese history. They were resented by peasants and workers, and their rage was used by party leaders. It is not unlike many in the president’s base who hate, yes hate, those with education and who know history.

The serial bombs are a clear attack on those elites and the rest of the country. The rage of whoever is behind it is similar to Chinese Party cadres. It is also similar to the very early attacks by the Brown Shirts. There are similarities to the Black Shirts or Franco’s people. Frankly, there are similarities to Cambodia, and yes North Korea.

We are on a knife edge of something ugly happening. These bombs are delivered less than two weeks before an election that could change the path of this presidency. Whoever is sending these is committed to an ideology. This is a signal and a dark warning. He, or she, or them, are getting egged on by a president who is not governing for the nation. Trump has no interest in that. He wants to consolidate power.

Vote, but realize that we are going to face more of this. You need to resist the temptation to engage on a one to one with people who literally may want you dead. And if you are a critic of this president, no matter how low on that totem pole, keep your wits about you. Historically it is not just the high ranking people who face the wrath of essential men who want nothing but to seed fear in people.

Do not surrender to that fear.
